My
woolie girls are inspired by the delicate
turn of the century Victorian porcelain dolls.
Their bodies are stitched in soft ivory woolen
flannel and they have lovely glass paperweight
eyes. Their facial features are hand embroidered
and they have handmade mohair wigs.
Their
intricate costuming I create from my enviable
stash of vintage fabrics, beading and passementerie.
Lastly, I stitch little leather shoes for
their feet.
What
I have created is a doll that has all the
allure of the antique porcelain, but that
is cuddly and soft, that you can truly play
with (as all grown up doll collector ladies
do….)
I
have also enjoyed designing a doll in the
1920’s and 1930’s style. Lots
more color and a bit more whimsical.
